RS Roundup 31 Jan

It’s been a busy start to the year for Refugee Support. Over the past month we have continued to see a rise in the number of people wanting to use our Dignity Centre in Moldova as more and more people are driven from their homes by the relentless bombardment of civilian areas in Ukraine. Our fantastic team is working hard to create a sense of normality in these difficult times, serving 1,100 Ukrainians every week.

Over in our centre in Cyprus we have also been adapting to the needs of our members. In response to the growing number of families at the centre we have introduced a selection of sensory toys at the centre which have been very popular with the adults and children alike!

Volunteer Elizabeth (and teacher) had this great idea so we acted on it. She play-tested them!

At the heart of what we do are our amazing volunteers. Over 175 people volunteered at our centres last year, with an incredible 30% of people having volunteered with us before! We currently have volunteering opportunities available in both centres:

  • Chisnau, Moldova: From the 20th of March 2023
  • Nicosia, Cyprus: From the 6th of March 2023

If you are thinking about volunteering, there is lots of information about what we do and what it’s like to volunteer with us here.

Join a friendly group of Refugee Support volunteers, staff and supporters in this year’s Lake District Ultra Challenge: a 100km walk, jog or run that you can do completely at your own pace, over one or two days. You can also opt for 50km or 25km instead. We guarantee this will be one of the highlights of your year. Find out more and sign up here.

In other news, we have also launched this new website where we have added lots of additional information about the work we do and how to get involved. Including a fabulous new fundraising guide filled with plenty of tips and advise to support you with your fundraising endeavours.
