We are delighted to announce the appointment of Fiona Cameron as the new CEO of Refugee Support Europe.
Fiona joins us at an important moment, as we work to grow our impact and ensure we can continue to stand alongside people seeking sanctuary in line with our values of dignity, community and solidarity.
Fiona has more than 25 years of experience across the charitable and community sectors in the UK and internationally. Most recently, she spent four years as Director of Development at a leading refugee service provider in Egypt, where she helped guide organisational growth and strategic development. With extensive expertise in fundraising, organisational change and community development, Fiona brings the experience and values needed to lead Refugee Support Europe into our next chapter.

As we welcome Fiona, we also want to express enormous gratitude to our outgoing CEO, Rachel Ellis, for almost three years of dedicated leadership.
Rachel became CEO in October 2023, having already made a significant contribution as a volunteer and Operations Manager. During her time at the helm, she helped guide the organisation through a period of considerable change and development.
Under Rachel’s leadership, we further professionalised our operations, strengthened our systems and governance, and diversified our fundraising. She helped secure our first major corporate partnership and expand our relationships with trusts, foundations and supporters.
We have also grown our advocacy work, speaking more confidently about the wider systems affecting refugees and people seeking asylum and deepening our commitment to ensuring that lived experience informs our work and strategic direction. Alongside this, Rachel oversaw frontline projects during an exceptionally challenging period for small charities, and the refugee support sector in particular.
As one chapter draws to a close and another begins, we wish Rachel all the best and look forward to the future under Fiona’s leadership.
