Generous local retailers

We’ve found the local Greek people very supportive of the refugees now living in their town: they have donated items, volunteered in the camp and are keen to help. But with around 50% unemployment and strained public services there are concerns about the possible burden of a refugee camp.

Economic benefits can foster acceptance. We’re trying to buy as much as we can locally. Some bulk supplies are being bought in the Lidl but we are also using small shops wherever we can and usually found compassionate retailers who will offer generous discounts.

We are now buying our yoghurt from a local supplier and sourced large supplies of much needed pants and shoes from a recent trip to the market!
