WELCOME TO THE REFUGEE SUPPORT EXPRESS
KEEPING UP WITH KATSIKAS
To accompany the opening our beautiful new café, we’ve created and opened an accompanying play area for the kids! Don’t you just love the colours?
It’s been all about the kids this week, as it was the little ones’ turn to shop for clothes. There’s always a few fashionistas and always lots of fun creating the coolest clothing combinations!
It’s so important to us to help refugees regain a sense of normality in their life; and particularly to help kids be kids. We hope that this new play area will help foster some joy amongst the turmoil, and provide children with a fun and safe place to make friends and play.
We’re currently looking for volunteers to help Syrian refugees in Greece from early September. If you or someone you know would be interested in volunteering, or finding out more, please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org today.
Dignity in Doliana
We continue to offer weekly aid with dignity in Doliana through our home delivery service. The service requires a huge amount of work, but it’s worth it. Here, volunteers are preparing crates with exactly what groceries each family ordered the week before. Our free, fair way of distributing food using tokens makes sure that nobody goes hungry, and that everyone has a choice in what they’re eating.
Staying informed – what we’re reading
This week, we’ve been reading the terrifying story of Mr. Cruz, as he breaks down the horrors and the cost of being smuggled by human traffickers from Mexico to the US:
Despite Trump’s best efforts, and initial ‘success’ in reducing the numbers of immigrants crossing the border, numbers of people and families trying to cross the have spiked again; and it’s painful to watch as people are forced to take more and more drastic measures to flee from danger, and seek safety.
The numbers are in, and we’re proud to announce the final total raised from our walk from Greece to Skopje in May.
Between them, our twenty amazing troopers raised a STAGGERING £48,291 ($63,743) to help Syrian refugees.
Not only does this help greatly with our ongoing £5,000 a week costs, but it enabled us to give out some extra food to celebrate Eid at all 3 Greek camps, and to build our newly opened cafe and play area at Katsikas camp.
‘Wow’ is an understatement. Thank you to every walker, and to every person who supported and sponsored their journey. You’ve done an incredible job!
Whether it’s walking, dancing or eating, here’s lots of things you can do to raise money and awareness for those who need it. If you have an idea for a fundraiser that you’d like to throw, please get in touch with us to let us know, and we can see how we can help.
Thank you for reading, and we’ll see you next time.
Please contact us today at email@example.com if you would like to help Syrian refugees in Greece, or just want to get in touch.
