The Cyprus Mail recently published a video following one of our former members, Jacqueline, her husband Madoubele and their children on a guided walk through the places in old Nicosia which have meant most to them during their time in Cyprus.
Jacqueline joined our RefuMade sewing cooperative and started making her own clothes, bags and accessories. You’ll see the Dignity Centre Nicosia appears at around 4 minutes — but we recommend watching the whole thing, as it’s an inspiring journey through Jacqueline and Madoubele’s new lives in Cyprus and challenges they face as they await their asylum decision, over six years since arriving in Europe.
After we closed RefuMade to focus on delivering essential material support, we distributed the equipment to members — which is how Jaqueline got her first sewing machine. Today, she designs and makes clothes and in 2024 took part in a fashion show at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, where she presented her creations for the first time.
