Refugee story: A mum

A mother brushes her son’s hair in preparation for a portrait. She is desperate to tell me that she hasn’t seen her eldest son for nine months. He is only thirteen. Her husband and eldest son made it to Germany, but she arrived at the Macedonian border just as it closed and could not go further. She is waiting to hear if they will be able to join the rest of the family in Germany. Her next meeting about the matter isn’t until the end of January. Until then she has to wait and tells me her son cries to for her everyday.
