In an Instagram Live conversation, our Ambassador Gulwali Passarlay and CEO Rachel Ellis reflected on Gulwali’s recent visit to our Dignity Centre in Cyprus, and the deeper questions it raised about solidarity, belonging and the power of small actions.
As someone who was a refugee himself, Gulwali shared what it meant to see people from over 20 countries — Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and beyond — coming together for connection and community, as well as material essentials.
Rachel spoke about the role our Centres play as a vital first port of call for people arriving with nothing, and how a simple “welcome” can spark a sense of hope and agency. Together, they explored the challenges facing refugees in Cyprus and across Europe, and why creating welcoming spaces matters more than ever.
