Recently, a group of Zumba instructors and enthusiasts joined forces to host Brighton’s second Zumbathon—a three-hour-long dance event featuring high-energy music and moves, and a whole lot of fun and good vibes.
Once again, we were glad to be the event’s chosen charity—receiving proceeds from ticket sales, online donations and a collection box on the day. This year, the Zumbathon raised a grant total of £1195, more than double the amount from 2022! This is a huge achievement, especially given the backdrop of challenging financial circumstances for so many people.
“Refugee Support’s work brings me warmth and inspiration and I’m so happy that we raised an incredible amount,” said co-organiser Rabia Awais. “My family were asylum seekers and refugees when they came to the UK, so I’m blessed and entirely grateful. Organisations like yourselves that help so many others who are seeking life from persecution always hold a special place in my heart.”
Co-organiser Linda Bramley added, “I’m always so humbled by the journeys of those less fortunate, and I am supremely grateful that I have the opportunity to live the life I lead. To hear and read the stories from Refugee Support is the reminder that I sometimes need to appreciate that whatever is going on in my world; how others overcome difficulties, often with support of organisations like Refugee Support, is inspiring and thought provoking. I have made many precious friendships through Zumba and to be able to combine this passion with such a fantastic fundraiser and being amongst those smiling likeminded caring people at our event is priceless.”
